VINTAGE KNIT STITCH

While rummaging through vintage knitting books I came across a 'cross-stitch' pattern for knitting.  Well, I couldn't resist, so I put down the little sweater I have been working on....

...faster than you could say "Am I bored?" and raced to find my needle case.

I found the stitch in this.

Published in 1967.

Ta-Da.  It really does resemble cross-stitch.   While I was conducting my experiment in DK weight yarn my mind was wandering to what uses could this be put to, and all I could think of was a cute little girls knit dress, with this at the top instead of smocking.

Then I had to try it with fingering weight sock yard.  Men's tie.  Yup. That's all I could come up with.  A flat edged 1960's skinny, MAD MED style tie.

The stitch really leads to a strong desire for extremely pointy needles....

  2. Someday I will learn to knit. Yarn colors always look so pretty. That sweater is smart looking.
